Schein’s model Symbols are any kind of pictures, objects, gestures, or words which carry a particular meaning only recognized by the members of one culture. To the category of symbols belong: There are many ways to visualize the concept of culture but one of the most famous and most used one is the Culture Onion by the dutch social psychologist Geert Hofstede. There are many ways to try to visualize the concept of what makes up someone’s culture, but a popular model is to compare one’s culture to an onion.
